Local bodies are structures that fulfil the needs of the people. The needs of villages and cities differ, so our Constitution has provided separate structures for them: urban local bodies for towns and cities and rural local bodies for villages. Local bodies are governed by representatives elected by the people; their constituencies are called wards. The Panchayat Raj System strengthened the local bodies.
