This chapter is a time line titled Important Events of Indian History (1500-1900), printed under the heading Towards Modernity. Its scale is 1 unit = 10 years. The events it lists run from the Foundation of Thuluva dynasty (1505) to the annexation of Golkonda by Aurangzeb (1687). These notes arrange every event in strict chronological order, period by period, and then regroup them by battles, persons and places for quick revision.
1. How to Read This Time Line
- The scale is 1 unit = 10 years; the axis is marked 1500, 1510, 1520 … 1600 on the first page and 1600, 1610 … 1700 on the second.
- Each entry gives a year and an event only – the time line does not describe the events.
- The textbook does not always print the entries in strict year order: 1527 (Khanwa) appears before 1526 (Panipat I), 1582 (Din Ilahi) before 1573 (Gujarat), 1646 (Torna) before 1623 (Amboyna), 1670 (Surat) before 1665 (Purandar), and 1605 (Death of Akbar) is printed last. The tables below put them in correct order – exactly what chronology questions test.
